Anne Nuorgam, Chair of the UN Permanent Forum of Indigenous Issues & Dalee Sambo Dorough, Chair of the Inuit Circumpolar Council highlighted the fundamental role Indigenous Peoples inland small-scale fisheries play in healthy food system.
This side-event took place during the Twentieth Session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Peoples Issues 2021 (UNPFII). It showcased the environmental, socio-cultural, economic and governance dimensions of Indigenous Peoples inland fisheries in informing the upcoming 2021 UN Food Systems Summit, as well as the creation of a pathway for the inclusion of Indigenous Peoples in the celebrations of the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture in 2022.
