Wan-lam-iing is a beautiful and significant post-wedding ritual. It marks the first time a bride is officially brought to and welcomed into her husband's maternal home (iing kur u shynrang) after the wedding.The bride is usually escorted by her own elders (mother and father, uncles and aunts) and her husband to his mother's house. The ceremony where the newly married couple visits the groom's family to receive blessings and formal recognition from his mother and uncles(ki kni).
In the Khasi matrilineal system, the husband typically moves to the wife's home. The Wan-lam-iing serves as a formal "Homecoming" to show that while the husband has joined his wife's family, the wife is now also a beloved member of the husband's clan (Ki Kur/Kha).
