with steady hands and watchful eyes
they did the work then slipped away

they lit a lamp and walked alone
so others might find their way home
they bore the weight no one could see
and bent the bars to set some free

they passed the note, they hid the bread
they stitched the wounds while others fled
they knew the risk but chose to stay
a truth defended, price to pay

some wrote the code, some cleaned the mess
some called it out with no redress
some held the line with empty hands
and drew the maps that freed the lands

the books they saved, the beds they made
the lies they caught before they stayed
the breath they gave, the doors they kept
so others passed while still they wept

they whispered hope where silence grew
their quiet strength like morning dew
they stood unseen, but standing tall
the humble hands that held us all

they faced the storms without a sound
where justice faltered, they stood their ground
no crowds to cheer, no songs to sing
the unseen ones who hold the ring

unseen, unheard, still standing true
a quiet grace, a deeper view
we walk today the roads they cleared
