This session will look at how an internalised presentation of autism differs from a more classic one, ways that you might recognise it and how to avoid autistic young people who present this way spiralling into poor mental health. It will also look at autistic masking and why it's so bad for someone's mental health, sensory needs and how to nurture a positive autistic identity in your autistic young person.
Our Speaker: Cathy Wassell
Autistic Girls Network is a new charity supporting autistic girls and their families, campaigning for earlier diagnosis and educating about how to foster earlier recognition and nurture a positive autistic identity. Cathy is a neurodivergent parent of two neurodivergent young people, CEO of Autistic Girls Network and soon-to-be published author of Nurturing Your Autistic Young Person coming from Jessica Kingsley Publishers in December 2022.
