In this video you’re listening to a ~25 minute session where ENDOGEN enters a SuperCollider failure node condition, something many users have asked about after seeing messages like “Node not found” in the server.
What may look like an error is actually part of system’s nature as a complex generative ecosystem, not a set of isolated modules.
Nodes are continuously created and destroyed inside feedback networks, and these nonlinear behaviors are where sound shifts from being simply programmed into something that truly emerges.
In these specific sessions the sound remains active on a failure node — and very often this is exactly the moment where recording becomes most interesting, revealing relationships between modules and long-form sonic evolution.
Inside the SuperCollider code there are conditions where, when a node dies and OSC can no longer properly reattach to it, a Terminal script (currently Mac only) attempts to reconnect parts of the system. This can sometimes unfold into continuous or even infinite behavioral chains.
If at any point the sound becomes unstable or freezes, simply stopping the SuperCollider code resets everything.
ENDOGEN isn’t about total control it’s about learning to navigate a living system of feedback, drift, and emergence.
As Peter Kirn (CDM) described it: ENDOGEN is more like a sailboat than a speedboat — you learn to read the wind and currents rather than forcing the direction.
Happy exploring
