After the failed Beer Hall Putsch in November 1923, Adolf Hitler was arrested and put on trial for treason in early 1924. The proceedings, held in Munich, became a platform for Hitler to deliver lengthy political speeches, turning the courtroom into a stage to promote his nationalist and anti-Weimar views. The judges, sympathetic to his ideology, allowed him wide latitude, and the media attention transformed him from a fringe agitator into a national figure. Although convicted, Hitler received a remarkably lenient sentence. He served only about nine months, during which he had comfortable conditions and used the time to dictate Mein Kampf, outlining his ideology and political goals.
