The co-main event of UFC 139 featured Wanderlei Silva taking on Cung Le in a middleweight matchup. The fight was Le's first in the UFC.

Le was the aggressor early, with Silva circling to his left. Silva countered nicely and forced Le to back away. A nice spinning back fist from Le connected, then a spinning back kick was blocked. Another spinning back fist landed from Le and dropped Silva. Silva had difficulty with the unorthodox striking of Le and looked concerned as he cautiously backed away. A nice combination landed by Silva. More variety from Le as he landed a wheel kick, though he started to bleed over his right eye. A high kick from Silva landed after a series of low kicks and Le was backing up for the first time, clearly bothered by the strikes and his eye.

Silva slipped and stumbled backwards after the first exchange of the second round, but he immediately popped back up and landed another low kick. Le landed a big right hand that Silva absorbed, and followed it up with an axe kick. Silva blocked a spinning back kick but wasn't able to find much offense through the first half of the round. Silva pressed forward with a nice combination, with Le looking to be losing some of his gas tank. Silva pressed forward again and crushed Le with a right hand, clinched up and three knees with the thai clinch, dropped Le to the ground and threw a few more punches as Le appeared to be looking for a takedown. Referee Dan Stell had seen enough, jumped in and called the fight.

The winner via knockout at 4:49 of the second round was Wanderlei Silva. Speaking to Joe Rogan in the post-fight interview, Silva commented, "If we just work hard we can... He hit me hard, had me moving my head... He's a real tough guy... thanks so much to all my fans around the world who believe in me."
