Описание: In April 1945, Benito Mussolini was captured by Italian partisans while trying to flee the country at the end of World War II. He was executed and later buried in an unmarked grave in Milan to prevent the site from becoming a political shrine.

However, in April 1946, a young fascist named Domenico Leccisi and several accomplices dug up Mussolini’s coffin from the cemetery. Leccisi said he wanted to give the former dictator a “proper burial.”

The group hid the corpse for months while authorities launched a nationwide search. Eventually, Italian police located the body four months later in a monastery in northern Italy, where it had been secretly stored by sympathizers.

Reports at the time also indicated that one of Mussolini’s legs was missing when the body was recovered.

After the discovery, the authorities quietly reburied Mussolini’s remains in a secure location. Years later, in 1957, the Italian government allowed his body to be transferred to the Mussolini family tomb in Predappio.
