We have a 2-meter long uniform chain, with 60 cm hanging freely off the edge. The total mass of the chain is 4 kg. The challenge is to calculate the work done in pulling the entire chain onto the table.

🔹 Problem Breakdown:

Chain Length: 2 meters
Hanging Length: 60 cm
Total Mass: 4 kg
Using the principles of physics, we determine the mass of the hanging chain and calculate the work required to lift it back onto the table. We simplify the problem by considering the center of gravity of the hanging portion, making it easier to find the solution.

🔹 Solution Highlights:

Calculate the mass of the hanging chain: Using the ratio of the hanging length to the total length.
Center of Gravity: Treat the hanging part as a point mass at its center of gravity.
Work Done: Compute the work done to raise this point mass to the table top using the formula W = mgh.

Step-by-step breakdown:

Mass of the hanging chain: (60/200) * 4 kg = 1.2 kg
Center of Gravity: Point mass at 30 cm from the table top
Work Done: W = mgh = 1.2 kg * 9.8 m/s² * 0.3 m = 3.6 J
By the end of this video, you will understand how to approach and solve similar problems involving work, energy, and the center of gravity. This example is perfect for students preparing for Class 11, Class 12, or AP Physics exams.
