"School" is a 15-word "Bleach" classic, probably one of the favorite songs of Nirvana members themselves. At least, it's the most-played-live tune in the catalogue, Nirvana performed it 270 times. It always felt like in high school again for Kurt.

"School" debuted live in October 1988 in Olympia. In December, it was recorded at Reciprocal Records in Seattle with Jack Endino during the "Bleach" sessions. For the song, they used the tape from the summer "Love Buzz" single sessions; "School" was recorded over the first take of "Big Cheese". The Reciprocal version proved to be the final one and was included in the album. That's the one I use in the video.

In March 1990, Nirvana recorded "School" among other songs at the Evergreen State College's TV studio. The session was supposed to result in Nirvana's first video release. They were captured playing live with some creepy imagery in the backdrop taken from the video cassettes Kurt taped off TV. The backdrop for "School" contained, among other stuff, Shaun Cassidy, contestants from "Star Search", and Christian bodybuilders "The Power Team".

"School" was also performed and recorded in January 1992 during Nirvana's appearance in "120 minutes".

The song was performed at Nirvana's last show, in Munich, on March 1, 1994.
