Описание: Patrulla Águila (Spanish for "Eagle Patrol"), formed July 4th, 1985, is the aerobatic demonstration team of the Spanish Air Force. It is based at San Javier Air Base at the location of 'Academia General del Aire', the academy of officers of the Spanish Air Force, near Mar Menor and La Manga, in the Murcia region of Spain. Flying seven Casa C-101 Aviojets, they are the only team to use yellow smoke and are also known for their formation landings.

During the 1950s and 1960s the Spanish aerobatic teams which preceded the creation of the Patrulla Águila were:

Basic Air School of Matacán (Salamanca) Patrol, founded in 1954 with six T-6 Texan aircraft.
Jet Training Air School Patrol, Talavera la Real Air Base (Badajoz), established in 1955 with T-33 Shooting Stars.
Ascua Patrol Manises Air Base (Valencia) established in 1956 (officially in 1958 became the Patrulla Ascua) equipped with the F-86 Sabre.
Los Llanos Air Base Patrol (Albacete) in 1980 with the Mirage F-1.

On the 4th June 1985, Patrulla Águila made its first training flight from pilots selected among the teachers of the Air Force Academy and were equipped with five CASA C-101 Aviojet, which soon after became seven, a spanish designed and made jet trainer, ideal for aerobatic flight. The livery was inspired in the extinct 'Patrulla Ascua', decorated with fiery paints.

Nowadays, Patrulla Águila has already accomplished 25 seasons since its foundation, has more than 25.000 logged flight hours and has participated in over 300 airshows, both civilian and military.

The pilots need to combine their work as aerobatic display pilots in Patrulla Águila with the teaching labour at 'Academia General del Aire', as, contrary to other aerobatic teams, they are not fully dedicated to the exhibition team due to budgetary constraints at Ejército del Aire, which makes their achievements even more meritorious. Another factor that adds to their skill are the limited performance of the C-101, since to perform certain maneuvers that can be easily pulled with other aircraft, they have to bring the capabilities of the C-101 to the limit.

Patrulla Águila performs their exhibitions between spring and autumn, resting during winter. Trainings intensify in February in order to be able to start the first shows in April. The demonstrations last around 30 minutes. The team sticks together during all this time with exception of the solo flight (Águila 5), the pairs (Águilas 6 y 7), that separate in brief occasions for special maneuvers, later returning to the formation.

The CASA C-101 Aviojet is a low-wing single engine jet-powered advanced trainer and light attack aircraft. It remains in service in the Spanish Air Force and some other countries; it is also flown by the Patrulla Águila aerobatics team.

It was designed to replace the already outdated Hispano Saeta. Spanish aircraft maker CASA began work on the C-101 in 1975. Germany's MBB and the USA's Northrop helped with the development, and the first four prototypes flew in June 1977. The design followed that of other jet trainers such as the BAE Hawk and the Alpha Jet, but was less aerodynamically sophisticated, with an unswept wing, and it had limited weapons capability.
