Humanoid Robots: Designed to resemble the human body, these are used for research into human movement (e.g., Boston Dynamics' Atlas) and for social interaction, education, and entertainment.

Mobile Robots: Capable of moving around, these include automated guided vehicles (AGVs) in warehouses, military drones, and planetary exploration rovers.

Companion Robots: These AI-driven devices focus on emotional support, communication, and entertainment, particularly for children and the elderly. 

Origin of the Term

The word "robot" was introduced by Czech playwright Karel Čapek in his 1920 play R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots). He derived the word from the Czech term robota, meaning "forced labor" or "servitude". The field of "robotics" was coined later by science fiction writer Isaac Asimov.
