What's up everybody?🤗
Sorry to keep you waiting! The full version of the short video I released earlier is finally finished!🙌🙌
So, I covered the opening soundtrack of "Ys II -Ancient Ys Vanished The Final Chapter-", one of Japan's most famous action RPGs.
Yes, I've been plagued by various equipment and app issues since the beginning of the year, but I've resolved them one by one and finally completed the track.🙌🥺
Despite my appearance, I've played Ys II from start to finish on the MSX2, PC-98, and Family Computer.
Because of that, it's a game I have a lot of emotional attachment to, so I spent a lot of time arranging it... "This isn't good enough! I have to create a more passionate sound!"😅
First of all, when covering this song, I decided to base it on the original "PC-88" version.
This song features distorted guitar and clear piano tones created by FM synthesis, and I thoroughly explored how to express this in my own unique tone through trial and error.
I tried playing the lead parts on various instruments, but ultimately found that the best tone was achieved by playing all the lead parts on electric guitar alone.
And it was the Fender Jr. Collection Stratocaster that made this possible.
This instrument, which I also used in last year's Halloween cover of Ys III, has a short scale, making whammying and bending easy, so even I, with relatively small hands, was able to perform this style of performance!
However, the piano tone of FM synthesis is far removed from a guitar sound. So this time, I used the amazing Helix Native system to create a synthesizer tone.
By the way, I also tried out various sounds from my beloved SY-200, but this time I completed everything using Helix Native!
For the distorted guitar parts, I tried to maximize the appeal of the guitar.
I believe the key to this song's "insane" sound is vibrato, so this time I tried to express it "insanely" through whammying. Yes, I used the aforementioned "Fender Jr. Collection Stratocaster"! 🎸🔥
And after trying out various sounds for the PSG sub-melody part, I decided to use the natural sound of a violin.
The violin part actually consists of two parts, but due to labor-saving reasons (lol), this video only shows the higher-pitched part being played. The violin part is panned left and right, but the left part is the higher part. 🎧
Enjoy the interplay between the guitar and violin melodies. 🤗🎸🎻
By the way, this song is about five minutes long in the PC-88 version, but it's a bit long, and I was running out of video ideas (lol). This time, I used the MSX2 version as a reference and kept it to about three minutes.
This video uses the actual opening video for the PC-88 version of Ys II, but I adjusted the playback speed in some areas, taking inspiration from the MSX2 version, to bring it down to three minutes.
Also, because filming took so long this time, I had a hard time adjusting the colors of the video, but since it would never end, I gave up for now lol.
It was a very, very, very difficult song, so there are a lot of shots with a stern, not-so-cute, serious expression lol, but I hope you enjoy the expression on my face as I try so hard to play 🙌😅
