인플루엔자

귓속에 소라껍데기를 넣은 건 태어나기 전의 일
커다란 울림 벽에 쌓인 소리의 찌꺼기들
듣는 법을 익히지 못한 입술이 거기 새겨져 있다
허리를 숙여 깊게 토하자
볼을 타고 흐르는 빨간 즙
긴 꼬리를 흘리며 구르는 귓바퀴
구르는 동안 즙은 넘쳐 찔꺽거려도
적시지 못하는 곳은 벌어진 입
이목구비가 없는 시절이 저장된 깊은 통로
속이 뚫린 곳에서 풍기는 청록색 냄새
숙제를 해야 한다며 엎드린 엉덩이
누워 자라는 버섯처럼 더 멀리 가라앉는 즙
말들은 목구멍을 타고 흘러 들어가고
귓속을 울리며 드나드는 되직한 소리
발목을 빼내기 위해 참았다 내뱉는 말들과
뱃구레를 쓰다듬는 펼친 손바닥
소라껍데기를 짊어진 채 오그라드는 아이
뱃속에 흐르는 즙을 밀어 넣었다
바닥에서는 저음의 우퍼가 흘린다
방진플랫폼을 깔고 앉은 소리들이
벽을 타고 찐득거렸다
공명하지 않고 사는 법을 익힌
쏟아지는 소라껍데기들

Influenza

Placing a conch shell inside the ear
was something that happened before birth.
Residues of sound pile up
along vast echoing walls,
and lips that never learned how to listen
are engraved there.
Bending over to retch deeply,
red juice runs down the cheek,
the auricle rolls, dragging a long tail.
Though the juice overflows and gulps as it rolls,
the place it cannot soak is the open mouth—
a deep passage storing a time
before eyes, nose, and face existed.
From a hollowed space wafts a turquoise scent.
A body bent forward, saying homework must be done.
Like mushrooms growing while lying down,
the juice sinks farther away.
Words slide down the throat,
thick sounds coming and going, ringing the ear.
Words held back, spat out to free the ankle,
an open palm stroking the belly.
A child shrinking under the weight of a conch shell,
pushing the flowing juice back into the gut.
On the floor, a subwoofer leaks low tones.
Sounds seated on vibration-damping platforms
cling stickily to the walls.
Having learned how to live without resonance,
conch shells keep spilling down.
