This Harvard Medical School Continuing Education video examines the key question: What are some of the more recent findings on the benefits of exercise?
Elizabeth Frates, MD, discusses how exercise benefits the brain by increasing and protecting neurons as well as expanding the volume of the hippocampus to help with cognition. She also highlights the chemical release of irisin during exercise and the role it plays in affecting appetite and protecting against dementia.
Dr. Frates is the director of Lifestyle Medicine for the Department of Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital, and this video is part 5 in the 12-part series: Clinician Wellness.
