In this lecture I introduce the Enterobacterales a bacterial order that includes many important pathogens including E. coli which will be the focus of this lecture. I cover the different E. coli pathotypes and the human and animal diseases they're associated with. Diarrheagenic types including shiga-toxin producing, enterotoxigenic and enteropathogenic E. coli as well as uropathogens, sepsis causing and avian pathogenic E. coli are all covered. As always, I also cover sample collection and diagnostic strategies, zoonotic potential and treatment options.
