Hi, I'm Tamer Azim. I'm a prosthodontist in the financial district in San Francisco. I'd like to talk to you today about full mouth reconstruction. Full mouth reconstruction or rehabilitation is a series of dental procedures that may involve fillings, crown and bridge root canal treatment, periodontal therapy, or implant placement if there are any missing teeth. I work with excellent specialists who are well qualified to treat patients for these types of procedures. I also work with outstanding dental labs that are able to replicate the fine details of your natural teeth. After the consultation appointment and making impressions or molds of your teeth and mouth, they're sent to the lab to make what is called a diagnostic wax-up which serves as a blueprint for the final product. This facilitates communication with the patient so they're able to get an idea about how the final product would look like. That's followed by a mock-up where you use a
temporary material in the patient's mouth so you're able to visualize looking in a mirror how the final restorations would look like. This also gives the patient the opportunity to be able to make any modifications to the shape of the teeth. We use that information to make a provisional restoration that the patient gets to go home with and show it to friends and family and get some feedback that they can then transfer to us, we communicate to the lab to make any kind of modifications to the shape or the shade of the final
restoration. There is truly nothing more rewarding than seeing the transformation the patient goes through when they come in with worn down dentition, acid erosion, any kind of decay. To teeth that are fully restored and look very natural. This allows the patient to function and
speak and chew normally like they once did. And that has a significant improvement in their quality of life.
