STORYLINE:
Thousands gathered on Friday at the funeral of Sgt. Gal Meir Eisenkot to pay their respects after he was killed in Gaza.

Eisenkot was the son of former Israeli military chief and member of Israel’s war cabinet, Gadi Eisenkot.

In a tearful eulogy Gal Meir Eisenkot sister, Rotem, paid tribute to her "beloved little brother".

"How do you say goodbye to a brother who claimed at every event that he is the fun axis of the family," she said.

"You have truly lived your life to the extreme. We had a childhood full of experiences.”

Gadi Eisenkot also paid tribute, describing his son's happiness about the part he played in the release of hostages during the cease-fire.

“When we approved plans, we knew their meaning,” said Israeli minister and fellow war cabinet member Benny Gants in a eulogy at the funeral.
