To start off with, I was pleasantly surprised at the fact that we arrived slightly early, which is very rare for TUI, although I suppose it was the first flight of the day. G-TUIB (named Alfie) is a beautiful aircraft that is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and overall is just a solid aircraft.

We took off at 6:29am (19 mins behind schedule, which isn’t too bad for TUI standards) from Birmingham’s RWY15 and turned left, eventually crossing over the North Sea and into the Netherlands. We then cruised at FL410 at 555mph (Mach .76), going over Germany, Austria, Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece, the islands of Thasos, Lemnos and Lesbos in the Aegean Sea, and then entering Turkey through Izmir and landing onto Dalaman’s RWY19.

The flight overall was smooth, with very little turbulence, however I was slightly annoyed at the friend group in front of me, who thought it would be ok to fully recline their seats, however I suppose TUI couldn’t help that. The seat was comfortable, with ample legroom and the services onboard were all satisfactory.

However, there was one key factor which very much disappointed me on this flight with TUI: the cabin crew. With all my past TUI experiences, I’ve had an amazing crew, who are always friendly and have a smile on their faces. On this flight, the crew didn’t seem very happy and brought down the good vibe which was very unlike them. Perhaps this was to do with the fact that it was the first flight of the day? Despite this, there were one or two flight FA’s who were pretty good. In my case, an old man was in charge of my section who didn’t look very happy to be there.

Apart from this, I had a decent flight with TUI and I’m looking forward to being back on Sunwing (on behalf of TUI) for my inbound flight onboard the 737-800!
