Today’s focus: how to maximize the surf wave on Chaparral Surf. Bryan covers the three big levers—speed, ballast, and the patented Malibu Surf Gate™ system (licensed tech on Chaparral).
Baseline setup: set cruise to ~10.6–11.2 mph (beginners), add +0.2–0.4 mph for heavier crews or to clean a washing lip.
Ballast recipe (start point): rear surf-side 70–80%, rear off-side 30–40%, center 50–70%, bow 10–30% to lengthen and firm the pocket.
Surf Gate: select PORT/STBD in the surf menu; gate deploys on the opposite side of the rider to shape the clean face. Use trim/tab 0–20% to fine-tune push vs. length.
Crew weight: keep 1–2 up front for length, avoid clutter at the transom, and make small changes one at a time.
Safety: engine in neutral with rider near the platform; use a surf-specific rope and spotter.
