This research project seeks to apply coral plasticity principles to building, installation and urban design by re-defining architectural modality. The concept is driven by coral polyp deformation to, and assimilation of, it’s environment, including but not limited to, its organic and inorganic neighbors. corals by nature are holobionts (assemblages of different species that form ecological units) and thrive on the variety of bodies they bond with. Similarly the building becomes an architectural infrastructure composed of several systems designed to generate energy through reverse electro-dialysis whilst creating an exhibit and research space to celebrate Miami’s luscious marine environment.
