Emil Simon was one of Romania's foremost conductors, leading the Cluj Philharmonic for more than 50 years, from 1961 until his death. Prolific in conducting contemporary music, he was also a composer himself. In 2025, conductor Matei Pop from Cluj-Napoca seized the opportunity of making one of his works ring out again, namely during the Days of New Music in Chişinău, where Simon was born.
