During the summer of 1977, after busking around Europe I came home for something to eat and immediately ended up going on a two week tour of Cornwall and the Scilly Isles with Cappo - still needing something to eat.
SORRY about the still photo, but its all I have, the song and the man is the special bit. Can anybody help me identify the pub? I thought it was in Perranporth, the 'Green Parrot' ??? It was run by a big blonde woman in a big black frock who frightened me shitless. I asked her for a gig and she said ' give me one good reason', -I couldn't get any words out. Answers on a postcard please ! Notice the 4X10's PA system!
We ended up in Newquay at the lovely lovely Dennis Quixbys' place, who never put his teeth in and had a never ending bottle of brandy. God I was so sick! Does anybody out there remember these people??
Tony made 'punch and Judy man' his own song with all respect to John Connoly. Tony tortured me with his own brand of English Folk song, and his unique interpretation of it, songs which have stuck in my brain all these years.
In the photo he is playing a 'Tama' acoustic, god knows why he played this instead of his beloved Martin D28. I had my old Gibson J45, and we would play 'Goodnight Irene' together and then strip off! What a show!
He always ingratiated himself with audiences and I remember a lovely crowd of German visitors being treated to storys of Spitfires and Lancasters. Went down a bomb.
I have some other snippets of 'Cappo' which I will soon put on but would love to hear from anyone else out there. If theres anyone playing the banjo in heaven tonite , its Cappo!
