The Origin Story of AG2

Описание: AG2 is a multi-agent framework whose origins date back to several ML experiments conducted at Microsoft Research in 2019 by Chi Wang, Qingyun Wu, and a handful of other collaborators. These initial experiments culminated in the release of an open-source Python package called FLAML, co-authored by Wang and Wu in late 2020. FLAML grew to be adopted by many enterprises over the subsequent two years.

After the release of ChatGPT in November 2022, FLAML began evolving in a different direction as Wang and Wu started adding experimental modules related to building multi-agent applications. Shortly thereafter, the FLAML codebase was forked into a new open-source project called AutoGen.

Over the course of 2023 and 2024, AutoGen's popularity grew as more staff engineers joined the project. In an unexpected plot twist, the founders (Wang and Wu) forked the codebase again after announcing their departure from Microsoft, at which point the project was redubbed AG2.
