State of Cross-Strait Relations: The Status Quo, Way to Peace & Stability

Описание: Tuesday's virtual meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Joe Biden sent a clear message on where both sides stand on a myriad of concerns, particularly on the hot-button issue of Taiwan. President Xi warned that "Taiwan independence" moves are extremely dangerous, while Biden reiterated U.S. support for the one-China principle. Differences did surface on how to maintain the cross-strait status quo and ways to bring peace and stability. On Thursday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said the U.S. should adhere to the one-China principle and the three joint communiques, the very political foundation of China-U.S. relations.
