Ingredients:-
Colocasia leaves Paangkhoklaa manaa - 14/15 leaves
Rice ( Manipuri or Thai rice not basmati)- 2 handfuls
Ginger - small piece
Hooker chive's roots/maroi maraa- 2/3
Chives - a handful
Asafoetida/hing - a hinge
Bay leaves - 1 or 2
Wild orange rind - small piece
Green chilli - 2 or 3
Fresh Milk - half a cup ( powdered milk can be used, dissolve 2 tablespoon milk powder in half a cup of water)
Sugar - 1 teaspoon
Sodium bicarbonate - 1 teaspoon
Salt - to taste
Coriander leaves for garnish.
Method:-
Wash the rice keep aside
Clean the colocasia leaves (paangkhokla manaa)
Chop the ginger, hooker chive's roots, chives.
In a pot heat 1 tablespoon mustard oil, add bay leaves, hokkerchives, chives, asafoetida/hing and try until they turn golden brown. Add sodium bicarbonate and then colocasia/paangkhokla leaves, fry for a minute and then add hot water, fill halfway. Once it starts boiling add the washed rice. Stir occassionally, cover the lid and simmer in medium heat for about 20 minutes or till the colocasia leaves looks mussy. Now add the milk, sugar and salt. Let it simmer for another 5 minutes. Garnish with coriander leaves or sliced ginger (if you are a ginger friend). Serve it hot.
