David Barnea was the 13th Director of Mossad.
Barnea began leading Mossad on June 1 2021. He was trusted by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Natanyahu to replace Yossi Cohen, whose term of office ended. Before rising to the position of Director of Mossad, Barnea served as Deputy Director of Mossad and Head of the Operations Directorate since 2019. He began serving in the Mossad intelligence agency in 1996.
Starting his career at Mossad, Barnea served as a case officer. He later held a number of senior positions. His career progressed until Barnea was finally appointed head of the HUMINT Division in 2013. In the division, also known as Tzomet, Barnea was responsible for finding, recruiting and handling agents. He spent most of his career in the division, before becoming the Mossad's number two in 2019.
