Selecting and delivering micromobility parking sites, both on the road and on the footway, is a critical part of delivering a successful e-scooter or bike share scheme that is both well used and well managed. Drawing on the experience of delivering a scheme that spans Portsmouth, Southampton and the Isle of Wight, the Solent Future Transport Zone is uniquely positioned to share the lessons that led to a scheme achieving over 95% parking compliance. Solent Transport is a partnership between the Isle of Wight Council, Portsmouth City Council and Southampton City Council. In 2018 Solent Transport was awarded £28.9m to deliver the Solent Future Transport Zone (FTZ) on behalf of its partner authorities and Hampshire County Council. The FTZ proposes to address local challenges such as high levels of car usage and the environmental impacts of freight movement within Solent’s urban areas by delivering a series of complementary projects within two key themes: Personal Mobility and Sustainable Urban Logistics.
