The Japan 7s stole the highlights from the day, recording an emphatic win over Great Britain and a stunning comeback victory over Canada - which sent the Sakura into the semi-finals.
Elsewhere the Australia sevens were up to their usual greatness as they blasted through their pool to continue their journey towards another title defence in the dessert. In the other pool, New Zealand were rocked by a shock loss to USA but managed to steady themselves with strong performances against France and Fiji to top the pool and progress to the semi-finals - closely followed by the Fijiana.
