Everything Sue Wong does is extraordinary. This was the first event to kick off Fashion Week in Los Angeles, 2009. Beauty • Magic • Transformation, the theme of her Spring 2010 Collection Belle Époque, defined the mood. Belle Époque which is French for the Beautiful Era, was a time during the seventies of the 19th century in Europe, marking a golden age in arts, science and culture which influenced impressionist artists (including Van Gogh, Monet, Degas, etc.) with the Oriental mystique of Japonisme, the term used to describe the craze for Japanese culture and art. Ms. Wong went on to explain how the era gave rise to the Haute Couture featured gowns rich in exotic feathers and furs.
