2012 Was a year that was defined by a number of devastating weather events, from the March 2nd Tornado Outbreak, to the Derecho in June, to a couple of hurricanes, 2012 was a year that was unforgettable in terms of significant weather events. However, one of them stands today as one of, if not the most significant event from that year. This month marks the 10 year anniversary of that event. 10 Years Ago, Superstorm Sandy, one of only two storms to receive that title officially, significantly damaged the Greater Antilles, and then slammed into the Northeastern United States, making its mark in history as the worst disaster to hit the Northeastern United States in recent memory. A storm that is unlike any other significant hurricane in the Atlantic Basin in recent memory, and a storm that I still clearly remember for it's unique and fascinating presentation on radar and on satellite. However the complexities of Sandy are not often talked about in-depth to a point of where I'd like it to be talked about. So today, looking back 10 years ago, I take a deep dive into Hurricane/Superstorm Sandy, going over the state of the 2012 Atlantic Hurricane Season before Sandy, Sandy's origins, the original forecast, the effects in the Caribbean, the forecast into the United States, the path of destruction it brought to the US, and the aftermath.
