Kallós was born on the 26th of March, 1926 in the village of Válaszút, Transylvania (Kolozs County). As a Hungarian ethnologist, he was the man who contributed so much in preserving the realm of Hungarian folk culture. He was famous for organizing and creating the Tancház movement (Dance House) in the 1970s during the Communist Regime. He was an honorary presbyter of the Hungarian Reformed Church, and he was awarded greatly for all of his works in the Hungarian Ethnographic Community. He collected and studied music everywhere, but his favorite areas of study was Moldavia (Moldova), Gyimes Valley (far Eastern border of Transylvania), Mezőség and Kalotaszeg (West-Central Transylvania). His personal favorite, and most popular song that he's known by is "Fordulj Kedves Lovam" which means "Turn Away My Dear Horse", a beautiful tune from the Mezőség area.
R.I.P. Zoli-bácsi. You will be missed, and your memory will be cherished.
