Today we’re heading off on a family adventure to Akaroa. It’s a small town, but it feels like something out of a storybook, right by the sea.

Our first stop was the Akaroa Lighthouse. It’s not very big, but I think it’s awesome. It stands up on the hill like it’s keeping an eye on the harbour. With its red and white stripes by the water, it’s one of the most famous spots in Akaroa — and you’ll see lots of people taking photos there!

Next, we visited a place everyone talks about — The Giant’s House. It’s an old house with the most amazing garden. There are colourful mosaics, fun sculptures, and art everywhere you look. A local artist named Josie Martin created it all, and it feels like exploring a giant outdoor art adventure. The exterior of the house was being fixed when we visited, but we didn’t mind at all.
After that, we went to the Akaroa Museum. We learned about the town’s history, old boats, and how people lived a long, long time ago. Some of the stuff was really old, and it was fun imagining what Akaroa was like before we were even born.

And then… the BEST part of the whole trip!
We went on a sea kayaking safari! We put on big life jackets and paddled out onto the ocean. The water was a bit rough, which made it exciting, and we felt like real explorers. We saw birds flying close by, seals relaxing on the rocks, and we kept looking into the water, hoping to see dolphins. And we got to see little blue penguins up close
It was a little bit scary… but mostly it was SUPER exciting. Being so close to nature made us feel brave and proud.
