While pearls have long been associated with beauty and prestige, pearl harvesting — whether natural or cultured — raises ethical and environmental concerns, particularly regarding harm to oysters and marine ecosystems. As a jewellery designer working with heritage-inspired techniques, I believe conscious luxury must consider not only tradition and beauty, but impact.

This reflection is what draws me toward bead embroidery traditions that echo the visual rhythm of pearls — using glass seed beads and seed pearls to honour heritage while allowing it to evolve more responsibly.
