Built by TWR and powered by Jaguar’s thunderous V12, the XJR-9 delivered one of the marque’s greatest motorsport achievements at the 1988 24 Hours of Le Mans. Completing 394 laps and over 5,300 km, it secured Jaguar’s first outright Le Mans victory in 31 years — famously finishing the final 40 minutes stuck in fourth gear.

Providing the chase footage is a rare and significant modern counterpart: the 2017 Jaguar XE SV Project 8 Development Prototype (VE67 OHR) — Car 1 of only 300 Project 8s built.

Developed by Jaguar Special Vehicle Operations and announced in 2018 as the World’s Fastest Saloon, Project 8 produces 600 PS from a 5.0-litre supercharged V8, making it the most powerful road-legal Jaguar ever. Prototype testing included extensive development work across Europe, a 7:18.4 Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record for a four-door saloon, and further saloon car records at Laguna Seca and the Dubai Autodrome.

This particular vehicle played a key role in Jaguar’s engineering programme, contributing to aerodynamic development, vehicle dynamics and stability systems, NVH exhaust tuning, Touring Pack sign-off, and over 1,800 miles of press launch track use at Portimão.
