Adena Friedman, CEO of Nasdaq, said it was vital for governments to ensure markets were fair and transparent. Governments had to look at wages and growth rates and other data before choosing whether to raise interest rates.
Although the SCC in the US felt it was too soon to bring in Exchange Rate Notes for bitcoin regulation, she said some Nordic nations had.
She would not comment on whether Saudi Aramco would join the Nasdaq, but praised the work of Saudi Arabia and UAE governments in developing fair and transparent markets.
Investors had to be confident they were working in a fair environment and companies that listed on these markets provided transparent information.
The job of a government should not be to cut of the supply and demand but should facilitate that instead, she said.
