“On a site like this, things change daily, so it’s really important that we keep our 3D machine control models up to date on the machines.”
This was the key message from MJL Group Project Manager Richard Patch when Peter Haddock recently met him on a major house building project in Dorset.
On site, they have 14 machines equipped with Leica 3D machine control, supported by local dealer One Point Survey Equipment. This mixed fleet includes equipment from Case Construction, Komatsu and Volvo
Richard explained how they keep their models up to date, “We work closely with JRC Consulting Engineers, who in turn share client updates with Kemp, our land survey and 3D model partners who also use Leica Geosystems surveying equipment.”
“This workflow means Kemp can quickly adjust 3D earthworks models, remotely upload them to machines, whilst also supporting other surveying tasks.
“They also set up our Leica Geosystems base station, which provides a constant GNSS reference point for both machines and survey rovers.”
“So once an operator receives a model update, they simply tap their screen, download the latest model, and get to work. For me and the whole team, this flexibility is a game changer that makes all the difference on a project of this scale.”
This video is part of a series of four, including interviews with operators, which can also be viewed on our @content for industry website.
