How to replace or repair rear wheel bearing seal and floating axle Chevrolet or GMC truck.
This exact repair fix demonstrated in video will be performed on a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD. This repair is similar to the GMC Sierra 1500/2500 models 1998-2007. This should apply to the Chevy 1500/2500 and GMC 1500/2500 although torque specs and parts may be different.
A broken or leaky wheel bearing seal is common in the GMC and Chevrolet 2500 HD models. There are different length floating rear axles for the Chevy 1500/2500 and GMC 1500/2500 trucks, so if you are replacing an axle, make sure you order the correct length for your make and model year truck. Your parking brake shoes will be most likely covered in grease and that will be a sure sign, you need to replace the rear wheel bearing seal. You can clean the brake shoes, but make sure you have them completely grease free for proper braking. I chose to replace the rear brake shoes in my Chevy 2500HD to ensure they worked properly after the wheel bearing and seal along with the floating axle reassembly. 1998-2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD and GMC Sierra 1500 models.
