St Andrews, Scotland: Day Trip Excursion from Leith/Edinburgh

Описание: More St Andrews is considered the "Home of Golf." The Old Course at St Andrews is considered the oldest golf course in the world. It is a public course over common land in St Andrews, Scotland and is held in trust by the St Andrews Links Trust under an act of Parliament. Additionally, there are many other golf courses in St Andrews, which cater to the various levels of expertise.

The town is somewhat divided into two halves: the golf side and the university side. Around the golf course are many shops selling golf merchandise, pubs, and restaurants. On the other end of town is St Andrews University, which is a beautiful historic campus. There are two additional historic sites in the city that are worth viewing: the St Andrews Castle and the St Andrews Cathedral. Both are now in ruins, but are great displays of stone architecture.

One of the main streets of the town is Market Street, where you can find cafes, pubs, ice cream shops, clothings stores, and, of course, golf shops. Overall, the entire town is charming with historic architecture.

For seniors, the streets are fairly easy walking, although the streets incline from the cathedral to the 18th hole. There is a lovely walk that follows the coastline.

For solo travelers, it is a safe community with easy navigation.
