For this episode, we are honored to welcome Dr. Lin Lin, Principal Investigator at the Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Dr. Hans Clevers, Professor of Molecular Genetics at Utrecht University.
In this episode, we explore insights from their recent publication, “Human airway submucosal gland organoids to study respiratory inflammation and infection.” Our conversation focuses on how human airway submucosal gland organoids can be used to model disease, with particular emphasis on the roles of niche signals, mechanical cues, and immune interactions in establishing and maintaining epithelial cell identity.
We discuss challenges related to inflammatory responses, the development of co-culture systems, and the modeling of chronic disease and aging using organoids. Drawing on experience across multiple secretory tissues, the conversation also highlights conserved cellular dynamics, the importance of standardization and reproducibility, and how these advances may strengthen the translational impact of organoid research.
At the end of the episode, Dr. Lin and Dr. Clevers share their perspectives and advice for young researchers.
Tune in and leave your comments as you join us for a fun, science-rich conversation.
