Program Notes:
The Clarinet Ensemble's "Shadow" series now has the fifth "Reiei." The character "Rei" means "dark" or "dark blue".

The ensemble's collective sound is alternately energetic, dramatic, and sometimes destructive. Enjoy this challenging aspect of the piece as one of its expressions.
Where the phrases are played in a dispersed manner, you can produce a three-dimensional effect by playing the phrases similarly. The score is very simple, but depending on how you use your breath, you can create a variety of musical expressions. Experiment with various ways. The following are some suggestions on how to breathe for this piece. This is one of the key points to creating a high-quality performance.

Breathe in short notes
When expressing a phrase with a single breath, it is important to fully produce the intended phrase.

I am grateful that many have played the "Shadow" series over the years as I continue to pursue the clarinet ensemble's potential.
In conclusion, I wish to thank the six members of the Hokusei Junior High School Wind Band in Hakusan City, Ishikawa Prefecture, as well as their director Noriko Kinoshita and clarinetist Junko Yamaoka, for their invaluable support and guidance during the premiere performance.
