The is a prototype of a Terz Flute - Flute in F, being made using 3D printing by Jeff Wulf. This is based on an original by Paul Villars, Paris (d.1776) from the collection of the Sigal Music Museum in Greenville, SC. We are very grateful for their help with this project! Thanks also to Boaz Berney who did the measurements of the original flute. The Terz Flute was a somewhat popular instrument in the 18thC and even more so in the 19th where it was often used in Military Band Music and for other repertoire. It is pitched a third above the standard D flute in use in the 18thC.
0:01 - Introduction
3:18 - Allegro Moderato, Ludevic Leplus
5:17 Prelude, Marin Marais
6:27 La Fileuse, Anon
7:07 Rondeau, Anon
8:20 Les Delices de Couperin
11:05 - beginning of the Leplus Allegro Moderato played on the Villars original (at a higher pitch than the copy)
The short French pieces by Marais, Anon, and Couperin are from an 18thC manuscript of solo flute pieces from my collection.
