Phlebotomist explains Requisitions/Orders for Blood Draws

In this video I explain what Requisitions/ Orders are for blood draws. What they contain on them and some of what they look like. They vary from place to place, and you will normally get familiar with what they are because wherever you will be working will train you on them. As a phlebotomist working for a diagnostic laboratory or a clinic and certain hospitals, you will be receiving orders for blood draws. The only time I never worked with requisitions was when I was working for the hospital directly. We were just the phlebotomist that was sent to draw blood because they were on our to do list on the mobi phones we were supplied with. But I guarantee that we didn’t just draw blood from patients whose doctor or nurse didn’t send a lab order to the lab. Requisitions/Orders are crucial in your phlebotomy career. No specimens and samples should ever be drawn without an order. And orders must accompany the specimens to the laboratory as well. Always make sure you have a paper trail at all times. If you’re ever unsure always look to your higher ups for guidance. You got this!
