An atmospheric river just tore through California — dumping relentless rain across the valley and stacking multiple feet of fresh snow in the Sierra Nevada.
This flight starts low over Auberry, California, where everything is still green and soaked from the storm. From there, I push out and climb toward 2,800 feet, tracing a ridge line as the landscape shifts in real time — wet foothills turning into fresh snowpack. The snow line is sharp, almost surgical. One side green. The other side winter.
The contrast is wild.
Flying long-range over terrain like this always puts things in perspective. Down in town it feels like just another storm system. A few thousand feet up and it’s a completely different world — quiet, white, and heavy with fresh Sierra snow.
