I acquired this tree three years ago. It was collected in 1996 from Southern California and styled in 2009 by the previous owner, who passed away. It is now my turn to continue developing the tree to try and reach the full potential that it has. This is how bonsai is sometimes.
My plan is to graft more shimpaku foliage once the tree is a little stronger. It has not been repotted for 14+ years, so it is way overdue. Next year, if it is growing well, I'll resume graphing. Once grafting is completed the new foliage they will grow to replace the native foliage. Then more growing and styling. It will be at least 8-10 year process!
