In today’s video, I’m sharing my honest thoughts on High Fidelity by Nick Hornby — a book that completely challenged my goal of being fair and balanced on this channel.
This is a nuanced, spoiler-light High Fidelity review where I break down:
Why Rob as a narrator didn’t work for me
The emotional tone that made this book feel draining
The portrayal of relationships and women in the novel
What I did appreciate about the writing and music culture
Who I think will love this book — and who probably won’t
High Fidelity is often considered a modern classic of 90s literary fiction, and I went in expecting to love it. Instead… I almost DNF’d it multiple times.
That said, I genuinely try to explore both the strengths and weaknesses of every book I discuss. Even when something doesn’t work for me, I want to understand why it resonates with so many other readers.

Have you read High Fidelity?
Did Rob’s character ruin it for you — or is his unlikeability the entire point?
Let’s talk in the comments.
