Animated titles show a ball of newspaper coming out of a magician's hat and unravelling to read: "HOWARD DE COURCY".
London, probably Pathe Studio.
Illusionist Howard De Courcy tears a newspaper broadsheet (The Daily Telegraph) into several small squares, telling us to take spare paper to the salvage department. With a flick of his wrist he opens the broadsheet - completely intact!
He then presents his version of 'The Rope Trick'. A distinguished man with a moustache enters to assist him, and snips through the rope with some scissors. Howard ties the two pieces together, then 'magics' them into one piece of rope again.
