Trina Atchison was told she wouldn’t live past childhood due to cystic fibrosis. Thanks to a groundbreaking clinical trial at St. Paul’s Hospital, she’s now thriving, working her dream job, and advocating for others still waiting for access to life-saving treatment.
Diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at just six months old, Trina Atchison spent most of her life preparing for the worst. By her late 20s, her lung function had deteriorated so severely that she could barely leave her home. But everything changed when she joined a clinical trial for Trikafta at St. Paul’s Hospital, home to BC’s largest adult CF clinic and a leader in life-saving research.
Within weeks of starting the trial, Trina’s lung function soared, her energy returned, and she began living a life she never thought possible. Today, she’s a veterinary assistant, engaged, and finally planning for a future she once believed she’d never have. But Trina’s story is more than a personal triumph—it’s a call to action. While Trikafta is approved for many, patients with rare CF mutations are still waiting for access.
Trina now advocates for mental health support in the CF community and equitable access to treatment for all. Her journey is a testament to the power of research, compassionate care, and the generosity of donors who make it all possible.
