SINNERS, SINS, REMISSION, AND FORGIVENESS
God’s Diagnosis — God’s Remedy — God’s Final Answer
INTRODUCTION
Friends, today I want to answer a very basic but very important question:
Do we sin because we are sinners,
or are we sinners because we sin?
And connected to that:
What is remission of sins?
Is remission the same as forgiveness?
If we get these wrong, we will misunderstand:
• salvation
• grace
• assurance
• and the finished work of Christ
So let’s let the King James Bible speak for itself.
PART 1 — THE ROOT PROBLEM IS NOT BEHAVIOR, IT IS NATURE
The Bible does not start with what man does.
It starts with what man is.
Psalm 51:5 (KJB)
“Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.”
David does not say, I became a sinner later.
He says sin was already there.
Jeremiah 17:9 (KJB)
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”
That means:
• Sin is not cosmetic
• Sin is not environmental
• Sin is not learned behavior
Sin is a condition.
PART 2 — ADAM EXPLAINS EVERYTHING
Romans 5:12 (KJB)
“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”
Notice the order:
• Sin entered first
• Death followed
• Death passed to all
• Then all sinned
So the Bible answer is clear:
👉 We sin because we are sinners
👉 Our sins are the fruit, not the root
PART 3 — OUR SINS PROVE OUR CONDITION
Romans 3:23 (KJB)
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
Romans 3:10–12 (KJB)
“There is none righteous, no, not one…”
Our actions don’t create the problem.
They reveal it.
That is why religion fails —
religion tries to fix behavior while ignoring nature.
PART 4 — GOD’S ANSWER WAS NEVER SELF-IMPROVEMENT
From Genesis onward, God never said:
“Try harder.”
God said:
“There must be death in the sinner’s place.”
Leviticus 17:11 (KJB)
“For the life of the flesh is in the blood… for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.”
Blood is required because:
• Sin brings death
• Life must be given
• A substitute must die
PART 5 — FORGIVENESS VS REMISSION (VERY IMPORTANT)
Here is where many believers get confused.
Forgiveness
• Can be conditional
• Can be withheld
• Can be restored
• Exists under the Law
Matthew 6:14–15 (KJB)
“For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you…”
That forgiveness depended on behavior.
Remission (stronger word)
Remission means:
• Sent away
• Cancelled
• No longer charged
• No longer imputed
Hebrews 9:22 (KJB)
“And without shedding of blood is no remission.”
Romans 4:8 (KJB)
“Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.”
That is remission.
Not just forgiven —
not counted anymore.
PART 6 — ISRAEL AND REMISSION (PROPHETIC PROGRAM)
Mark 1:4 (KJB)
“John did baptize… for the remission of sins.”
Acts 2:38 (KJB)
“Repent, and be baptized… for the remission of sins.”
This was:
• Spoken to Israel
• Connected to repentance and baptism
• Kingdom-focused
• Covenant-based
Real — but not our program today.
PART 7 — GOD’S FINAL ANSWER TODAY
THE REVELATION OF THE MYSTERY GIVEN TO PAUL
Now comes the clearest light.
The Gospel that saves today
1 Corinthians 15:1–4 (KJB)
“How that Christ died for our sins…
And that he was buried…
And that he rose again…”
Christ did not just die for what we did —
He dealt with what we are in Adam.
God now justifies the ungodly
Romans 4:5 (KJB)
“But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly…”
Not the improved.
Not the religious.
The ungodly.
Remission accomplished once for all
Romans 3:24–25 (KJB)
“To declare his righteousness for the remission of sins…”
Because remission is real, forgiveness is total
Colossians 2:13 (KJB)
“Having forgiven you all trespasses;”
ALL means:
• Past
• Present
• Future
God no longer imputes sin to the believer
2 Corinthians 5:19 (KJB)
“Not imputing their trespasses unto them…”
That is remission in its final Pauline form.
FINAL SUMMARY (CLEAR AND SIMPLE)
• We sin because we are sinners
• Our sins prove our condition
• God’s answer was always blood
• Forgiveness alone is not enough
• Remission removes the debt
• Today, under grace:
◦ Christ’s blood accomplished remission
◦ Sin is no longer imputed
◦ Forgiveness is complete
◦ The believer is in Christ
◦ A new creature
◦ Forever justified
This is not religion.
This is not probation.
This is finished redemption.
