Lying Drunk Woman Tries to Flee After Head-On Crash and Gets her FOURTH DUI

Описание: On October 15, 2025 at approximately 6:38 PM, Officer Francisco Silva with the Villa Park Police Department was dispatched to the area of W Ridge Road and N Westmore Avenue on a report of a head-on crash involving 2 vehicles. He arrived on scene and was advised by another woman walking her dog that the female driver of the gray 2005 Honda Civic was walking away from the scene of the crash on Westmore Avenue southbound.

Another officer first made contact with the female suspect, who was later identified as Karina Alonso. Karina initially claimed that her female friend was the one who was driving, but it was later determined that Karina was the driver. Another woman sustained a fracture to her right wrist after being involved in the head-on crash. Karina admitted that she had consumed alcohol a few hours earlier that evening, so Officer Silva decided to administer field sobriety exercises.

The first exercise was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. During the HGN test, Officer Silva observed the lack of smooth pursuit and distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test. During the Walk and Turn test, Karina did not touch heel-to-toe on each step, turned improperly, and took an incorrect number of steps. The final exercise was the One Leg Stand test, and Karina failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion and put her foot down before the test was complete.

Following the field sobriety exercises, Officer Kappos brought over the PBT machine, but Karina refused to blow into it. Based on the motor vehicle crash, the odor of alcohol, her admission to drinking earlier that evening, and her inability to adequately perform the field sobriety exercises, Officer Silva placed Karina under arrest for driving under the influence. A subsequent search of her vehicle revealed the presence of multiple open containers of tequila.

After she was placed in the patrol car, Karina became unresponsive in the patrol car. First responders were called to the scene, and they transported Karina to Elmhurst Hospital. Her blood test results at the hospital indicated a BAC level of 0.158%, which was approximately double the legal limit of 0.08%.

After Karina was cleared by hospital staff, she was transported to the Villa Park Police Department for further processing. Officer Kappos read Karina her Miranda rights, and Karina agreed to answer questions. Karina admitted to crashing into the other vehicle when she attempted to avoid construction in the area and drove on the opposite side of the road.

Officer Silva contacted felony screening and felony charges were approved. Karina was subsequently transported by Officer Kappos to the DuPage County Jail and charged with the following:
-Aggravated DUI 4th Violation (625 ILCS 5/11-501(d)(a)(1))
-Failure to report accident involving personal injury (625 ILCS 5/11-401(b))
-Driving with a suspended license (625 ILCS 5/6-303(a))
-Improper lane usage-crossing lane boundary (625 ILCS 5/11-709(a))
-Operating an uninsured motor vehicle (625 ILCS 5/3-707(a))
-Transportation or possession of open alcohol (625 ILCS 5/11-502(a))
